  • Merit Contractors Construction Trade Award

    We are proud to offer an annual $1,000 scholarship.

  • Who is eligible?

    This award is open to a dependant/relative of a Merit employee employed with a Merit member company, or a Merit member employee.  First preference shall be given to a student enrolled or applying for enrolment in a pre-apprenticeship program in a construction related trade.  Second preference shall be given to a Merit apprentice indentured in a recognized construction trade.  In the event the above requirements are not met, Merit reserves the right to defer the scholarship until an eligible candidate has been selected.

    Forms are available online (www.awards.nscc.ca), at your Campus Centre for Student Success or by emailing awards@nscc.ca. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Employer of Excellence Award

    The Employer of Excellence Award is presented annually to an employer who practices good human resource services to their employees.

    To be eligible for this award, companies must participate in the Merit Benefit Plan and employers must be nominated by their employees. There are several categories the employee must comment on:

    What are the three most important reasons for nominating your company as an Employer of Excellence? (Why do you enjoy working for this company?) How does your company evaluate employee performance? How often do evaluations take place? How is good performance recognized? How are employee concerns and complaints dealt with? Are they handled fairly? Does your company provide training and support? If so, what kind? Does your company hold social functions for staff, family, retired workers etc? Describe. Is staff kept informed of company policies and procedures? If so, how? Is staff kept informed about the success and future direction of the company? If so, how? How do you rate your company’s safety policies and procedures?

  • Apprenticeship Awards Program

    Each year Merit Contractors Association of Nova Scotia presents awards to graduating apprentices who have achieved Journeyperson status in a recognized trade in the past year. To be eligible, the employee must be employed by a Merit member company enrolled in the Hour Bank Benefit Plan and be nominated by his/her employer.

    Awards are based on the information provided by the employer in the following categories:

    Attitude, Technical Skills, Practical Skills, Efficiency, Leadership, Flexibility, Communication Skills, Safety Orientated, Team Player, Reliability, Additional Courses and Community Involvement.

  • Skills Canada – Nova Scotia Competition

    Merit apprentices are eligible to receive support from Merit Nova Scotia if they compete in the Skills Competition.
